Case Study — ISCR

Confidential NY Site

Amsterdam, New York

Project Summary

A confidential project located in Amsterdam, NY was impacted by chlorinated solvents, specifically trichloroethene (TCE). The goal was to obtain the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC) groundwater remedial standard for TCE of 5 µg/L. The remedial challenges consisted of large fluctuations of the groundwater and the bedrock geology.

Provect-ERD-CH4™ was selected as the remedial approach to create enhanced reductive dechlorination (EDR) conditions in the ground water for anaerobic bioremediation of TCE contamination.

Remedial Plan

Enhanced anaerobic bioremediation application of 2,700 gallons of Provect-ERD-CH4™ via five temporary injection points.

Results

  • Geochemical data indicated sustained bioremediation with ORPs -31 to -274 mV (pre-injection conditions were positive ORPs).
  • pH declined from alkaline, indicating organic carbon metabolism began.
  • Greater than 96% reductions of TCE within the source area in 4 months post treatment.
